The antique detective: Japanese cabinetry-simply beautiful

Article Abstract:

The hand-forged iron hardware that defines the 18th and 19th century Japanese cabinetry and examples relating to the Japanese mastery of lacquer dating to the early 18th century are explored. The Tansu chests of Japan are described which can be adapted to our contemporary lifestyles, that include space for clothing, linens, medicine and business supplies.

William and Mary style furniture is popular and reproductions made in Holland, America can sell for thousands of dollars when it makes a rear appearance. The most reproduced pieces are the side chairs with cane paneled backs, framed with heavy frames and many pieces, which come to the market, are altered over centuries.
