Steps that retailers can take to help assure the integrity of their systems are outlined. Running a simple diagnostic test can provide information about available memory, system errors, and security matters. 'Smart' point-of-sale systems can continue to operate when problems with the main system occur.

When home centers get sued

Article Abstract:

Home Depot Inc and Hechinger Co are among home centers that have been involved in lawsuits involving safety and discrimination. About 153 safety citations were issued by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration against industry retailers, while 377 discrimination complaints were filed. While many of these cases have no merit, the need for new corporate policies that will address these issues cannot be overemphasized.

Wickes unveils new distribution concept

Article Abstract:

Wilkes Contractor Supply is the first building materials distribution facility to be opened by Wickes Lumber Co. The facility in Pensacola, FL, will supply contractors such things as insulation, roofing, siding and drywall products. Wickes official Dave Krawczyk says that the company plans to totally dominate the category with its spectacled vehicles and machinery, including insulation-blower vans and boom trucks.
