The local gardens of New Orleans offer unique opportunities for visitors to see the range of gardening possibilities in a 10-month growing season. Because of the city's high temperatures and humidity, plants grow rapidly. Most gardeners cater to this and allow lush foliage to dominate their gardens.

Pleaching: the tie that binds; this ancient art yields a living structure

Article Abstract:

Pleaching owes its origin to the necessity of mending gaps in farm hedges. It now has aesthetic applications and requires only basic hedge clippers, pruning shears and and a pocket knife. Locations of outstanding pleaching displays are provided.

Bird pepper

Article Abstract:

Bird peppers, which pre-Colombian Mexicans called chiltecpins, are 1/4 inch in size and have a potent bite. They grow wild across the southern part of the US and with care can be grown in colder climes.
