Article Abstract:

Landscape design standards of the 1960s dictated the use of unsightly bushes to cover a house front. Following the advice of garden designer Jim Sines, Ed and Pat Hearle defied those standards by replacing the bushes with low, decorative shrubbery and a split-level yard in their home in Bethesda, MD.

Making an entrance

Article Abstract:

An arbor at the entrance of the garden marks the transition from front yard to side yard and frames a view of the garden beyond. Steps are given for making a right size of arbor with the space available. It costs around 800 dollars to create an arbor.
