Leonard Green & Partners agreed to buy Builders Square and Hechinger Co home center store chains to create a new company with an increased competitive potential in the home improvement market. Green is planning to form the third-largest home improvement retailer in the US having at least 279 stores with a sales volume of $4.75 billion. Green also intends to provide funds for the newly formed chain's remodeling projects.

House-Hasson acquires Sheffield Hardware

Almost all the assets of Sheffield Hardware Co are to be acquired by House-Hasson Hardware which signed a binding letter of intent in May 1997. The two companies are members of Distribution America, and House-Hasson expects the move to give it a foothold in Florida and a major presence in Georgia and Alabama. House-Hasson services agents in eight southern states, including Tennessee and Virginia.
