Violets: the incredible shrinking violets can send you into olfactory overload

Article Abstract:

The U.S. floral industry's manipulation of fragrant violets to produce blossoms that could be made into a bouquet resulted in flowers lacking in scent. Fragrant parma violets were difficult to find because many had become diseased, but one woman was determined to bring them back to this country. She imported some from Britain, propagated them, and they became more widely available. The best way to enjoy scented violets is in a pot on a cool windowsill within reach of the nose.
