'04 mortgage rates more volatile, but remain low

Mortgages rates remained low in the first there and half months of 2004, but are slightly more volatile than in the same period last year. According to Freddie Mac, the U.S. Congress-chartered corporation that buys mortgages from lenders and repackages them into investor-purchased securities, the average rate for a 30 year fixed rate mortgage was 5.79 percent for the week ended April 8 2004.
