Aktrin to offer procurement contract info

Aktrin, a research firm based in Canada and Dutch consulting firm CustomerSelekt are partnering to post on Aktrin's Web site furniture procurement contracts put out for government bids in the European Union. The procurement contracts will also be put out for government institutions such as hospitals, police and fire departments, schools and universities, prisons and public utilities. The tender postings is to be located on the Web at www.aktrin.com/712.htm. Many of the offers are open to non-European bidders and North American suppliers, according to the rules set by the World Trade Organization.

Canadian exports top C$1B; U.S. market the main target

Article Abstract:

Canadian household furniture and bedding producers reported exports worth C$1 billion in 1997, where almost all exports were to the US market. 1997 exports to the US increased 20.8% to amount to C$1.01 billion against C$837.8 million in 1996. Total exports to markets such as Japan, the UK and other European countries advanced 18.9% in 1997 to total to C$1.05 billion. Wood producers reported the largest earnings with a nearly 25% increase in 1997 exports to C$774.3 million, while upholstery exports posted a 9.6% boost to C$142.8 million.
