Apparent market grows 14.2% in 1997

Article Abstract:

The apparent market for the Canadian household furniture and bedding market posted a 14% growth in 1997 to amount to C$2.6 billion against C$2.28 billion in 1996. Apparent market is the number of factory shipments in Canada, less exports, plus imports, all valued at wholesale prices in Canadian dollars. Retail orders to factories in the country grew 11.4% in 1997 to total to C$1.78 billion against C$1.6 billion in 1996, while total imports by retailers increased 20.9% in 1997 worth C$816.2 million, along with a boost in US orders worth C$486.7 million.

Top 10 Canadian furniture & bedding producers

The list ranks the Top 10 furniture and bedding producers in Canada based on total revenues in 1997. Dorel Inds. of Montreal, Quebec, is ranked first with 1997 revenues worth C$531.7 million, followed by Palliser Furniture of Winnipeg, Manitoba, with 1997 revenues worth C$324 million. Shermag Inc. of Sherbrooke, Quebec is ranked third with 1997 revenues worth C$94.8 million. The list also indicate total revenues in 1996 and the percentage change brought about by the increase in revenues in 1997, as well as its home base and products.
