Canadian shipments to U.S. soar 28% in half

Article Abstract:

Canadian furniture exports to the US increased by 28.1% to C$599.3 million for the first six months of 1998 compared to the figures reported for the same period in 1997. Preliminary information from Industry Canada's consumer products unit also reported that furniture imports from the US into Canada declined by 2.8% to C$220.4 million for the first half of 1998 compared to the first six months of 1997. The increase in furniture exports and the corresponding decline in imports has been attributed to the weaker value of the Canadian dollar against the US dollar.
