Company says it can control Internet retailing

Furniturefortress.com of Darnestown, MD, claims to be capable of coming up with a method of regulating the sale of furniture products over the Internet. The company, which hopes to produce a viable product by 1999, is bidding to be recognized by the furniture industry as its sole agent for deals over the World Wide Web. Furniturefortress.com, which will participate at the October 1998 market at High Point, NC, intends to provide furniture makers with services that will include Web site development, geographic territory protection, electronic catalog development and a secure e-commerce site.

Simmons leaving Virginia House

Article Abstract:

Virginia House's president and CEO, Butch Simmons, will step down from his post in October 1998, to pursue other business opportunities. Simmons, who replaced George "Punch" Greer at the top position in August 1995, was also the founder of Orleans Furniture and held various posts at both American of Martinsville, VA, and National/Mt. Airy in Virginia. Simmons , who has agreed to stay until October 1998 to help the Galax, VA-based firm in the transition, was still in-charge of the company when it purchased Vaughan-Bassett in September 1998.
