Dillard's adds Mercantile

Article Abstract:

Dillard's has plans to acquire Mercantile Stores of Fairfield, OH, for approximately $2.9 billion in stock. The planned Mercantile purchase, which is anticipated to be completed in the middle of summer 1998, will add over 100 outlets, including 16 home outlets, for Dillard's, which has a base of 272 outlets in 27 states. Mercantile runs the 16 home-fashion outlets and 103 mainly fashion apparel department outlets, which are situated in 17 states mainly in the Southeast, Midwest and South. The outlets are being operated under 13 various names that include Castner Knott, J.B. White, Gayfers, McAlpin's and Maison Blanche.

Globe acquires Detroit corporate housing firm

Article Abstract:

Globe Business Resources has acquired Village Suites of Detroit in a move that reflects the company's motivation in gaining more clout in the US corporate housing market. The acquisition of the Village Suites will give Globe access to three new markets, as well as reinforces its presence in Detroit, MI, Chicago, IL, and Cincinnati, OH. Village Suites has annual revenues of $13 million and corporate housing businesses in Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee and Minneapolis, MN. Village Suites general manager George Quay IV was also hired as a Globe vice president.
