Kincaid plans 4 to 6 stores for 1999

Article Abstract:

Kincaid Furniture will follow a careful and meticulous strategy to expand its retail operation, looking to open only four to six stores by the end of 1999. The company is in search of potential franchise owners with ample capital in markets where there is little or no business that would compete with Kincaid's solid-wood case goods line. A typical Kincaid Home Furnishings store will measure about 15,000 sq ft to 17,000 sq ft, ample space to accomodate all 18 of Kincaid's case-good patterns. The company has opened the first Kincaid Home Furnishing site in Latham, NY, a 10,000-sq-ft shop owned by Jack Nelen.

Buoyant bedroom sales save the day

Article Abstract:

Retail sales of bedroom furniture are projected to increase by around 6% in 1997, a little more than double the 2.9% growth expected for the entire furniture category. The expected good performance of the bedroom segment should compensate for the stagnant dining room segment. Bedroom sales are on the rise because of the growing number of second homes and vacation homes being built and purchased, among other reasons.
