Article Abstract:

Designers of computer interfaces need to concern themselves with both the aesthetic quality and the help it gives the user to negotiate the software. The task is complex and requires thousands of programming lines, thus many question whether it is worth the effort. A report carried out by Microsoft and Groupe Bull indicates that it does, since beginners were 48% and experienced users 58% more productive when using a graphical user interface rather than a textual user interface.
