Leather Factory plans to enter metro Seattle

Article Abstract:

Leather Factory is embarking on its biggest expansion efforts in years with the transfer of one store and the planned launch of four or five more stores by the end of 1999. The manufacturer and specialty retailer of medium-priced and sophisticated leather upholstery will make its presence felt in metro Seattle, WA, with the opening of two stores. A fourth metro New York store will be launched while as many as two outlets will be unveiled in Southern California. Chairman and CEO Sy Katz said the firm, whose sales declined by 3% to $31.9 million in 1997 relative to 1996, has closed more stores than it has launched during the past years.

Room Plus gets new partner

Article Abstract:

Room Plus of Paterson, NJ, a retailer and maker of mica-laminated bedroom furnitures for the youth sector, is the recipient of a $1.5-million loan that the firm intends to use in restructuring its product mix. The two-year loan came from David Belford, the chairman and CEO of Nationwide Warehouse of Columbus, OH, the promotional retailer that has 84 outlets in the US and Canada. Room Plus' receipt of new capital immediately arrested concerns about the firm's capacity to continue operations following $1.9-million deficit in 1997.
