Paul Maitland-Smith, the chairman of Theodore Alexander and a pioneer of developing high-end furniture, discussed Vietnam's potential in the United States furniture market in the Vietnamese exhibition held in High Point in April 2004. He stated that the Vietnamese are famous for the work they do in eggshell, lacquer, embroidery, and carvings and were very hardworking.

Furniture suppliers' are finding hard to supply their products because of fuel deficits. The shortages aroused due to Hurricane Katrina making gas and oil production to halt at Gulf of Mexico and Mississippi Delta region.
