Retailers explore rug opportunities

Article Abstract:

The rug category has increasingly become an important niche in every major channel of furnishings retailing in High Point, NC, during the past ten years. Rugs, which are being sold in different colors for as low as $69 to as high as $10,000, are now being displayed at furniture markets in High Point in growing numbers. However, it is figured out that furniture stores account for lower than 10% of the retail rug market, which is valued at $2 billion. Home furnishings stores' growing interest in rugs has been brought by a realization that the rugs can often mean cash-and-carry business, trouble free and high turns.
