The Lazarus department store is using innovative marketing techniques in its housewares department. This department, called The Marketplace, displays merchandise in small 'shops' and sponsors product demonstrations every day. A cooking school helps promote cookware, and an Italian-theme festival drew attention to imports.

Hswrs. retail credit to increase in '84

Article Abstract:

The upswing in consumer spending is resulting in more use of credit cards. Retailers expect to see credit used more in the housewares departments, although traditionally credit use has been reserved for big-ticket items. Housewares managers see credit as a good means of promotion.

Article Abstract:

A Housewares poll of merchandisers determined the best housewares departments to shop. The Cellar at Macys New York and San Francisco was mentioned most often. Other innovative design and display techniques are found in Bloomingdale's, Crate and Barrel, and Zabar's.
