The double standard of death built by the mass media is discussed. An educational strategy is developed to rectify the idea that the deaths of astronauts and soldiers are greeted with great concern whereas those of day laborers are accepted as an act of nature.

Informalization: Imported through immigration or a feature of advanced economies?

Article Abstract:

The author examines the role third world immigrants play in the economy of highly developed countries. The author's findings suggests immigrants do not cause an informal economy to exist, but rather seize opportunities that already exist in the larger economy.

Employer sanctions against immigrant workers

The author examines the how labor unions and immigrant workers in low-wage occupations are turning to each other for support. It also examines the failure of the employer-sanction law to improve wages, labor conditions and how it restricts workers' rights.
