An analysis of the factors affecting the turnover intention of non-managerial clerical staff: a Singapore study

Article Abstract:

Turnover of employees can place a financial strain on organisations in the form of loss of productivity and the costs associated with recruiting and training. The management of employee turnover is an important part of human resources management. An analysis of a study that examines the factors affecting turnover intention and job satisfaction among non-managerial clerical staff in the banking industry is presented. The study concludes that job satisfaction factors significantly affect turnover intention, while demographic variables tend not to impinge on turnover intention.

Human factors in the transfer of the 'Japanese best practice' manufacturing system to Singapore

Article Abstract:

A study of management practices in over thirty subsidiaries of Japanese manufacturing firms operating in Singapore indicates that the management follows the Japanese lean production model or best practice, but is more in line with with human resource management practices in Singapore. Papers on lean production indicate that the Japanese model could be globally acceptable and is not only relevant to Japanese companies. Where Japanese expatriates are working at subsidiaries there appears to be a greater emphasis on Japanese best practice.
