Have gangs invaded your workplace?

Article Abstract:

There is growing evidence that gangs have already infiltrated Corporate America. A recent study conducted by the University of Chicago reveals that gang members are concealing criminal activities behind their middle-class appearance. The FBI also reports that nearly half a million gang members live and work in about 700 American cities. This figure is likely to increase significantly if their affiliates and those who want to join gangs are taken into account. Aside from using the legitimacy of the workplace as a cover, experts say that gang members enter the workforce to avail of employee benefits, such as health insurance to cover medical bills arising from gang-related shootings and similar activities. Six measures are offered to help companies protect themselves from gangs.

Discover best practices through benchmarking

Article Abstract:

Intense competition and the consequent demand to produce more with less resources are driving many human resource managers to turn to benchmarking to empower employees and increase productivity. Benchmarking entails the study of the best practices of other companies and then implementing those best practices in one's own company. It also means measuring a company's performance, and then comparing it with industry performance. Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. and Xerox Corp. are two companies that are extensively using benchmarking, particularly in human resource management.
