Cleaning up our act

Article Abstract:

The dealing with the nuclear legacy, as the first generation of nuclear reactors come to an end, are discussed. The nuclear regulatory framework includes the EURATOM that controls the exposure of workers and the general public to ionising radiation, the IAEA Safety Standards for nuclear safety, and the Conventions on Nuclear Safety which place obligations on the signatories regarding the safety of the nuclear power plants.

Safe landing for aviation workers

Article Abstract:

Assessments of the professional risks encountered on maintenance sites have highlighted the extent to which working on and around aircraft carries a number of risks, especially from 'struck by' injuries. The Atelier Industriel di l' Aeronautique (AIA) in Clermont-Ferrand was set up in the year 1939 to make the aeroplanes contributing to the country's defense more quickly available.

The adequacy of the role of the emergency planning arrangements in the mitigation of major accidents are discussed. The health and safety risks are involved while dealing with the disaster.
