Yoram Ben-Porath: the economist, the friend

Article Abstract:

Noted economist Yoram Ben-Porath perished in a car accident on Oct. 18, 1992. Schooled at the Hebrew University and later on at Harvard University, Ben-Porath preferred the traditional style of development economics that looked for answers in a maze of statistical data. Research on investment in human capital, fertility patterns, and the interaction between fertility and women's labor supply are among his significant contributions to the field of labor economics.
