Specific types of personal protective equipment (PPE) use different materials to protect against different hazards found in the workplace. PPE manufacturers undertake research to improve and extend their products and to meet European standards. Workwear conforming to the relevant standards will receive the Communaute Europeene (CE) mark from July 1995

Protective clothing (PC) is required has the last line of defence in any chemical handling operation. Before choosing a PC system it is necessary to identify the chemical or mixture involved so that potential hazards can be characterised. The most appropriate PC can be selected to eliminate any detrimental effects.
