Employer Stock in Retirement Plans: Investment Risk and Retirement Security

Article Abstract:

The paper describes a statistical analysis of the relationship that exists between the characteristics of defined contribution plans and the proportion of plan assets held as employer securities. It subsequently discusses the provisions of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) that pertain to employer securities in retirement benefit plans.

Participant contribution and asset allocations during the recent bull and bear market: evidence from TIAA-CREF

Article Abstract:

The defined contribution plan behavior of many Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association-College Retirement Equities Fund (TIAA-CREF) participants in U.S. during the bull and bear markets of 1986-2002 are discussed. The changes in plan participant behavior take place slowly and diversification takes hold against the test of time.
