Employment relations and labour market indicators in ten industrialized market economies: comparative statistics

Article Abstract:

Business had become increasingly international because of new communication technology, fewer trade barriers and the growth of multinational companies. Employers and government agencies need to collect employment statistics but it is difficult to get useful information from data which crosses over several countries because each country has its own economic, political and social variables. In spite of increasing globalisation it is likely that employment relations will continue to differ from country to country.

The importance of small differences: the effects of research design on the comparative study of industrial relations reform in Australia and New Zealand

Article Abstract:

It can be argued that methodological choices have substantial repercussions for the sorts of explanations produced by comparative industrial relations research. There is a need to look more closely at the epistemological assumptions contained within research designs used by industrial relations researchers. There are several weaknesses connected with the use of a most similar research design to the comparison of industrial relations reform in Australia and New Zealand in the 1980s and 1990s.
