Equal opportunities in the NHS: the state of play

Article Abstract:

General policy statements covering equality of employment opportunities are a feature of most National Health Service trusts in England, and at least 90% of these cover ethnic minorities, disabled people, and women. Most of the trusts surveyed also cover sexuality, religion, and older employees. A staff member responsible for this area, usually the personnel director, is also present in most trusts, but only a tiny proportion of trusts have a specialist in this post.

Improving flexible workers' motivation

Article Abstract:

Employee surveys indicated that employers should take steps to meet their part-time employees work preferences in order to increase productivity and employee satisfaction. Steps employers could undertake are providing more varied working hours, training and more information on organizational practices and changes. Upon hiring, employers should honestly seek part-time employees' job-related goals and then seek to satisfy those goals.
