Grants grows its own grapevine

Article Abstract:

Grants of St. James's, a UK winery, developed a program to help managers communicate organizational changes to employees. Changes in the marketplace caused Grants to make changes in its culture and structure in 1988. Over two-thirds of the employees would be adversely affected by the changes, so management felt that an effective employee communication system was needed. Grants obtained the support of middle managers by openly explaining the changes, allowing managers to question the strategy, involving managers in the implementation of the changes, and providing managers with time to make personal adjustments.
