Greening the workforce

Article Abstract:

Environmental management is emerging as an imporant part of the business strategy of many British companies. Factors driving this trend are growing customer demand for green products, stricter laws and regulations, cost control and a general concern for the future of the planet. Detailed interviews with environmental and personnel specialists in 26 organizations with environmental management systems in place showed a preference for soft management techniques and indicated that environmental management will in the future have a greater impact on people management.

Italian legislation: workforce reductions

Article Abstract:

Law 223 deals with the companies in Italy and their relations with employees and unions. Law 223 states that the laying-off of employees in companies experiencing financial crisis is justified provided that there is a standard in the identification of workers to be terminated. The law also protects the rights of employees in companies not in financial crisis. The coverage of Law 223 is yet to be fully defined since there have only been few cases in which the law has been applied.

High awareness of maternity legislation

Article Abstract:

A report on a survey carried out to explore employers awareness of maternity rights and benefits following the implementation of the 2003 reforms and to examine how the maternity rights legislation works from the employers perspective is presented. Results of the survey show that female employers with children have the highest awareness of maternity legislation.
