How to evaluate psychological-honesty tests

Article Abstract:

Firms considering use of pre-employment screening tests for job applicants are advised to scrutinize claims about the tests with caution and care. The review begins with verifying the test author's academic, professional, research, and publication credentials, contacting vendor customers, and obtaining independent review of author and test. It is advisable to beware of tests for which little or no validation exists, which claim to replace a polygraph, or whose validation studies are designed and conducted by the vendor. Pointers for checking the underlying research include: being wary of studies not based on prediction models of validation, that do not reveal errors in prediction, that claim to predict violent behavior, and that do not examine actual job candidates.

Welcome aboard the quality team

Article Abstract:

Most personnel directors are reluctant to become actively involved in a company's quality enhancement program, although their contribution is vital to the program's success. Personnel directors fit into quality enhancement programs by: insuring the quality of raw materials and supplies; ensuring that excellence is designed into the product; identifying the manufacturing processes' critical points to ensure their effective management; ensuring that internal and external customers are given proper importance; and ensuring that every employee is a member of the quality enhancement efforts. The personnel director's essential duty in helping to implement the quality control program is in fostering a sense of teamwork.
