Initiate employee input

Article Abstract:

There is a sequence of steps to take when soliciting or receiving employee input to management. It should be widely known in the company that such input is welcome. Employees should be informed of the decision-making process of the company and appropriate procedures. Whenever input is received, it should be carefully listened to. Management-by-walking-around is a good way to get input. Making and prioritizing agendas should be obligatory when submitting suggestions. Employees should be encouraged to think in terms of solutions, not problems. Any suggestion should reflect: an understanding of the department and organization; how the recommendation affects the product or service involved; what its influence would be on profitability; and how it impacts human resources and other departments. Follow-ups and updates on suggestions are vital to the success of participatory programs.

Workshops aid in goal setting

Article Abstract:

There are many benefits associated with employee participation in organizational goal-setting which can be accomplished by hosting a goal-setting workshop. A workshop can: enhance employee interest; reduce resistance to change; and increase commitment. To achieve success, however, workshop goals must be simple, measurable, accountable, realistic and timely. Managers who want to prepare for a workshop should focus on size, procedure, agenda, resources, knowledge, and the agenda to achieve positive workshop outcomes.

Employees redesign their jobs

Article Abstract:

Employee-centered work redesign lets workers creatively participate in redefining their job responsibilities while benefiting the entire organization. Workers can revise job titles and descriptions, but they must be able to justify how the changes will help the organization and its employees. The benefits of employee-centered work redesign include decreased turnover and improved employee relations.
