Mass production is alive and well: the future of work and organization in East Asia

Article Abstract:

The newly industrialized economies of Asia, i.e. Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong are de-industrializing and have shifted base to the emerging economies of China and Malaysia, due to low wages and cost effectiveness, making study of their human resources management (HRM). The HRM practices and policies in both China and Malaysia were similar, the low-investment, low-trust kind, employing uneducated unskilled workers, mainly females and rural workers.

Transferring human resource practices from the United Kingdom to China: the limits and potential for convergence

Article Abstract:

The transfer of a British-owed retail firm's human resource management (HRM) practices from the United Kingdom (UK) to the people of China is studied. The results revealed that 'cultural distance' does not present an insurmountable barrier to the transfer of HRM practices.

Marketization and social protection reform: emerging HRM issues in China

Article Abstract:

The relationship between globalization and social protection in China is explored. If China is able to implement an effective social protection system, the HRM practices such as planning and incentive schemes will improve.
