Mixed progress on diversity in civil service

Article Abstract:

The Senior Civil Service (SCS) of the United Kingdom continues to become more diverse with respect to employing minority ethnic staff and women in top management posts, although there is not enough progress regarding disabled employees. The Home Office and its agencies too have made significant improvement and in some cases even exceeded targets for promoting race equality among its staff.

Ethnic minority police up - but progress slow

Article Abstract:

Home Office efforts to increase minority police officers in England and Wales have met with slow success. Ethnic minority officers in the overall UK jumped from 2,545 in 1998 to 2,754 in 1999/2000, but the targets set by the UK government call for 800 new minority officers each year.
