"Never seem to find the time": balancing work with life

Article Abstract:

A report by the British think tank Demos indicates the growing importance of flexible work while pointing out some of its potential hazards. Lack of time is a growing complaint, especially among mothers employed full-time, and together with reduced job security, it is fostering higher stress among the employed. Technological innovation, more demands for choice and freedom, and the value of an hour's work are changing how time should be managed. This conflicts with wishes for services to operate in non-working hours.

US companies accused of 'dumping' waste cargoes

Article Abstract:

China has rejected shipments of waste material of plastic, scrap metal, radioactive and medical waste from the US due to the strict regulations of the United Nations treaty on waste exports. To prevent further dumping of these wastes, China has invoked the UN Basle Convention on Control of Transboundary Movement of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal. Hong Kong, which is a transshipment port, has also refused to deal with such wastes and will shortly be invoking the same convention to which it is also a signatory.
