New GIC products - and how to judge quality

Article Abstract:

Traditional guaranteed investment contracts (GICs) and separate account investments are facing intense competition from synthetic GICs. Synthetic GICs are expected to enjoy wider popularity under the New York Insurance Dept.'s two new rulings. To evaluate the credit quality of GIC issuers, three important factors must be considered. These include the issuer's suitability, creditworthiness as reflected by quantitative and qualitative research and diversification matrix based on quality ratings.

Broad-based stock options: before and after the market downturn

Article Abstract:

The influence of distribution of stock options in large, medium and small companies at different market situations on productivity of employees is investigated. It was found that employees of companies who distribute stock options broadly are more productive, and that output increase is significant in all market conditions except for small companies in falling market. The impacts of stock options on employee motivation and retention are also examined.
