New order for construction sites

Article Abstract:

The construction industry is particularly prone to disregard the safety of its workers, usually due to ignorance and pressure to complete the work. The average accident rates for construction workers is a fatality every three days and 59 workers injured every day although the latter is considered to represent only half the true number. Five European Commission (EC) directives will have a profound effect on the construction industry in the UK, four dealing with various industries including construction and one specifically concerning construction. This is the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations. Risk management is to be the foundation that EC legislation is built on.

Eastern Europe marks trust in EU

Article Abstract:

Businesses in the Czech Republic and Slovakia are building partnerships with western enterprises to develop new health and safety systems that will ensure their products meet European Union requirements. In the Czech Republic, many standards harmonize with those in Europe, with manufacturers and distributors having close links with the Department of Health's Regional Testing Houses and the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs' State Testing House. Slovakia's State Testing Laboratory tests protective equipment in accordance with EU directives. Both countries are seeking EU membership.
