Practitioners urged to recognise change and motivate line managers

Article Abstract:

At the 1996 conference of the UK's Institution of Safety and Health, its deputy director general David Eves told delegates that the profession was well-placed to influence managers' health and safety decisions and instigate change. Eves said that practitioners needed to show that risk control affects the whole business, not just the health and safety element. Another speaker, Andrea McWatt, told the conference that the European Union's increasing focus on employment law places health and safety at the centre of good business practice.

Safety Manoeuvres: vehicle activities at the workplace are dangerous, they need to be managed properly

Article Abstract:

Four out of five workplace transport safety accidents could be prevented according to David Eves, the deputy director general of the Health and Safety Executive. The HSE has launched a transport safety campaign aimed at raising awareness of the issue. Many employers do not plan for safety and site layouts are often evolved. Work sites should have a one way layout or roadways must be wide enough for vehicles to pass easily.
