Quality improvement - emerging issues to controlling medical costs

Article Abstract:

Managed care networks are being pressured by competition to adopt quality evaluation tools to show the quality of care they provide and the degree of member satisfaction. Employers and other plan sponsors should also consider the importance of quality evaluation issues in marketing services and managing the care provided. Among the more common quality evaluation techniques are clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, network structure and process, utilization measures, quality of care measures and member access to health services.

Lottery could provide cash for health care

Article Abstract:

Many US residents do not have adequate health care coverage, and one solution to this problem is to develop a lottery on a national scale to pay for health care. If a 'Grand National Lotto' is created, there are several safeguards that must be implemented, including: establishing a start-up fund; appointing a government branch to oversee the lotto; and establishing minimal contributions from lotto participants.
