RSI: prevention and cure in the industrial workplace

Article Abstract:

Action against repetitive strain injury (RSI) in industry can be tackled from the employee and machinery points of view. Applicants for jobs must be screened very carefully so that both employee and employer are fully aware of personal factors that might place the new employee at risk. The team that designs the equipment to be used should include health and safety analysts and managers. A qualified ergonomics specialist is invaluable in this instance. After the employee is using the equipment a continuous programme of monitoring must be maintained.

RSI: prevention and cure

Article Abstract:

Repetitive strain injury (RSI) is connected with high throughput labour intensive operations and is just one of the problem for managers associated with Work Related Upper Limb Disorder (WRULD). European Community directives have been issued on health and safety strategies and firms should set objectives and implement schemes to overcome problems such as RPI. Qualified ergonomists are the ideal people to advise on the necessary steps both from the operator and equipment viewpoint.

Getting to grips with manual handling

Article Abstract:

Ergonomics can involve assessment of manual handling procedures. Risk reduction should follow such assessments. All the organization should be involved if risks are to be reduced. Companies should seek to bring in cheap and simple changes prior to starting more complex, long-term measures to reduce risk. Continued vigilance is needed once the assessment procedure has been carried out since accidents are always possible where objects have to be moved by employees.
