Honesty works when selling a home

Article Abstract:

Homes of employees being transferred are often purchased by employers via the efforts of professional relocation experts. In such situations, employers are considered to be real estate professionals bound by laws which require sellers to disclose information about defects or conditions which affect property being sold. Employers are also considered to be able to afford large amounts of money should legal disputes develop regarding disclosure. However, employers must frequently rely on their employees who own the homes to relay information, and many employees may be reluctant to reveal negative data. Companies are encouraged to develop clear relocation policies which emphasize that buyers will be more likely to buy homes on which disclosure is made, prompting employees to cooperative when furnishing property information.

Helping spouses helps employers

Article Abstract:

Employee Relocation Council statistics reveal that dual-career families make up 60% of all families, and the percentage is predicted to increase by 1995 to 75%. Two career families are changing the acceptance rate of corporate transfers because relocation can result in loss of career growth, a reduction in standard of living, and insecurity. Spousal assistance programs have been developed, but many do not address the emotional, 'hidden' costs of relocation, which include family unhappiness and loss of productivity. Spouses need programs which include: education on the psychological affects of transfers; help in analyzing needs and values; and instruction on how to locate work.
