Article Abstract:

The British Employment Relations Bill introduces various family-centered employment rights allowing employees leave from work for family responsibilities, including time off for family crises and unpaid paternity leave. The government is also working on a national childcare strategy aimed at encouraging businesses to give their employees access to quality childcare and develop flexible working policies to help working parents look after children.

Derek Burn wrote in the Financial Times that the key to corporate profitability was an integrated approach to employee competency. Burn writes that the performance appraisal process must be modernized to recognize such competencies as the most important link between individual performance and corporate profitability.
