Sporting mums to be

Article Abstract:

Employers' concepts of the acceptable risks for pregnant women working in the sports and leisure sector vary widely, but European Union law now requires employers to contribute to risk assessments rather than simply advising women to consult their doctors. In the sports and leisure sector the risk assessment process must include professional sportswomen, coaches, teachers, instructors, professional guides, referees, lifeguards and outdoor adventure staff. The UK's Health and Safety executive has published guidelines, HS(G)122, to help employers with the risk assessment process.

Post-op clean up

Article Abstract:

Wigan Health Authority is employing a Decomp Formalin Decontaminator chamber to sterilise medical instruments and prevent the spread of HIV infection. Formalin can be used to sterlise medical equipment associated with blood such as dialysis machines, infusion devices and blood gas machines. Because the instruments are sterilised in a sealed container the decontamination is much more efficient.
