The 'old' and 'new' competition and Malaysian manufacturing firms: a case study

Article Abstract:

Recent research has focused on the changing nature of work organisation and industrial relations policies in Malaysia, giving particular attention to the question of whether Malaysia is introducing elements of 'new competition' or whether it is still closely involved in a system of mass production. It was found that both systems are still in operation, sometimes even within a single company. Malaysia will need an integrated approach to economic and industrial planning if it is to move closer to its aim of becoming an industrialised and developed country by the year 2020.
