There's a lot to think about this year

Article Abstract:

Several surveys yield insights into future developments and issues in the pension industry. One survey focusing on Americans' retirement outlook reveals that more people are optimistic about their retirement finances. However, disparities in year-to-year figures on those who are not so confident belie the generally positive outlook. This suggests that retirement education programs have been less effective than thought. Another study reveals that investment-performance education affects people's investment tactics.

Where will pension funds invest?

Article Abstract:

A survey of pension fund executives across the US in 1995 reveals plans by pension funds to expand their oversees investments. Corporate funds are favoring both passive and active investments in the international markets, while their emphasis on fixed-income investments has declined. Moreover, defined contribution plans are being restructured, with a focus on investment education programs and company stock proportions within plans. Other developments include continuing downsizing and the use of derivatives.
