What happens if development funds dry up?

Article Abstract:

The technology-based training (TBT) industry relies heavily on such government bodies as the Training Commission, the Department of Industry, and the European Economic Community for funding. Much of this funding supports research and development, is used to encourage the business of educational and training technology, and is channeled into the development of learning resources. If the level of state funding were significantly reduced, general confidence in the TBT industry would be shaken, the viability of TBT as an effective tool would be questioned, many TBT companies would fail to survive, and overall industry output would fall in quantity. The TBT industry needs to work to insure that it can withstand such an eventuality.

Article Abstract:

Recent technological advances and political liberalization have made Bulgaria a prime candidate for western technology, especially in the field of computer training. The Bulgarian government is installing microcomputers in primary and secondary schools as a way to train and prepare the new generation to operate in today's microelectronics environment. Shortage of hard currency and western restrictions on high technology export will continue to be major obstacles but Bulgaria is worthy of the effort since it can be the gateway to markets of Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union.

A practical use for voice input?

Article Abstract:

Interactive audio has potential as a training tool. Most applications are specialized, such as training for the blind and training in telephone techniques. Optical disc technology can accommodate the large data storage requirements of digitized speech, and as its prices fall and as it becomes better understood, it is expected to provide new audio training capabilities. Voice recognition systems are also falling in price and increasing in capability, making voice input a possible alternative to keyboards and 'mice'.
