Women-friendly HRM good for QWL: the case of Hong Kong based companies

Article Abstract:

A survey of organizations in Hong Kong seeks to discover their women-friendly policies and the effect of women-friendly human resource management systems on employees' quality of work life. The findings suggest that US and European firms are more likely to have women-friendly policies in place than local Hong Kong companies. Comparing US companies to those in Hong Kong shows that US firms have a more positive attitude to women's career development, while European firms are more flexible.

Reversion to China: implications for Hong Kong

Article Abstract:

The prospects for industrial relations in Hong Kong after it is handed over to China in 1997 are discussed, focusing on the non-adversarial model of labour relations common in Japan, China and Singapore. It is suggested that Hong Kong trade unions should adopt collaborative and less adversarial strategies and move away from confrontational collective bargaining.
