Contractors should build loss prevention plans

Article Abstract:

Construction building contractors should establish loss prevention habits to insure themselves against unwanted losses due to theft or vandalism. A detailed list of all important equipment should be kept at the job site, including pictures if necessary. A supervisor should be in charge of maintaining the list and in assigning workers responsibility for locking equipment up at night and keeping watch on valuables during the day.

Surging market aided policyholders' surplus

Article Abstract:

The property/casualty sector of the insurance industry has used record policyholders' surpluses to increase reserves for asbestos cleanup and environmental damages, which totaled $10 billion for the industry in 1995 and are expected to increase. The industry's surplus increased in 1995 by 19.3% after increasing only 4.2% in 1994. Analysts say the bull stock market caused the increase.
