ALTA position regarding revised RESPA regulations

Article Abstract:

The revised Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act of 1974 regulations need clarification since they seem to favor controlled business arrangements over free competition among settlement service providers, provide new opportunities for the payment of referral fees and promote packaged settlement services. The American Land Title Assn opposes controlled business arrangements and would like competition to be as free as possible. The regulations on 'core title agent services' must be clarified in accordance with actual industry practices put in place for the sake of management efficiency and regional differences.
