Article Abstract:

The impact of demographic aspects on life and health insurance industry is analyzed. Based on these effects, it is expected that insurance premiums will be higher for certain type of insurance. Other issues related to the industry like shifting of distribution channels, demutualization wave, and capital market activity are also discussed. Mergers and acquisitions in the industry are continuing to dwindle.

The rebound of equity markets and an increased growth, during 2003, have helped the commencement of merger and acquisition (M&A) activity in the entire insurance sector. The firms with a presence in the retirement savings market, with a solid distribution pipeline and with a franchise or brand name value are the most likely acquisition candidates.
