Intricacies of small cap investing

Article Abstract:

Investors must be aware of the differences involved in the management of small cap funds and large cap funds before expending money on them. Experts warn new investors that relying solely on past performance may not provide an accurate portrayal of portfolio structures in the long term. Buyers are also cautioned to monitor the amounts small cap managers handle which can run in the hundred millions. While no specific amount is optimal, funds in excess of $500 million may become problematic.

Investors think small again

Article Abstract:

UK investors are receiving low rates of interest for deposit accounts, and government securities have fallen, though rising yields bring benefits for those buying annuities. Shares in smaller companies are performing better than shares in big companies, which peaked in Feb 1996. The UK economy is showing slow growth, with stocks built up in manufacturing industry which faces weakness in export markets. Good returns will be more difficult to achieve in 1996 than in 1995.

Stock investing: a time to globalize

Article Abstract:

Foreign stocks are an attractive investment option. Investing in them would lead to a diversification of one's stock portfolio leading to a diffusion of risk. Furthermore, the fact that international stock markets have generally been performing better than US stock exchanges since 1970 should assure investors of better-than-average returns. Nevertheless, even if foreign stocks stopped outperforming domestic stocks, the advantage of diversification still holds.
